Card Details
Mana CostCharacter Background
Ashen Rider is a brutal finisher for control and midrange decks that want to convert a long game into a decisive swing. In Magic: The Gathering, its 5/5 flying body already pressures life totals, but the real power is the double exile trigger: when it enters or dies, target permanent is exiled, letting you answer nearly anything while still leaving behind a threat your opponent must respect. That makes it especially strong in reanimator shells, where cheating it onto the battlefield turns cards like Entomb, Unburial Rites, or Animate Dead into removal plus evasion. It also pairs well with sacrifice outlets or blink effects, since even if opponents remove it, you still get another exile trigger. Lore-wise, the card feels like a grim avenger, a celestial executioner that leaves nothing behind for resurrection or recursion to exploit.
