Card Details
Mana CostCharacter Background
Onakke Oathkeeper is a compact defensive body that clearly belongs in a control or superfriends plan, where its real value is protecting your planeswalkers while also offering late-game recursion from the graveyard. The front side makes attacking planeswalkers awkward and expensive, especially in multiplayer, because every creature aimed at a walker taxes the opponent’s whole swing; that can buy crucial turns for setting up ultimates or stabilizing behind blockers. The back-end ability is even more important in Commander: exiling it from the graveyard to return a target planeswalker card means it doubles as both protection and recovery, turning trades and self-mill into real card advantage. It works especially well with self-mill, looting, or sacrifice shells that can stock the graveyard, and it pairs neatly with planeswalkers that generate value immediately upon entering. In decks built around repeated loyalty threats, this is a humble but very efficient guardian and recursion tool.
