Skittering Cicada
Oracle Text
Flash
You may cast colorless spells as though they had flash.
Whenever you cast a colorless spell, until end of turn, this creature gains trample and gets +X/+X, where X is that spell's mana value.
Card Details
Mana CostCharacter Background
Skittering Cicada is a deceptively flexible tool for colorless decks, especially tempo-oriented builds that want to play reactively while still threatening sudden damage. As a 2/2 flash creature for three mana, it can ambush attackers or be deployed at the end of an opponent’s turn, but its real strength is turning every colorless spell into a combat trick. Casting an artifact or Eldrazi with this on the field gives the Cicada trample and a burst of size equal to that spell’s mana value, so even modest ramp pieces can become surprise pressure, while larger haymakers can create lethal swings out of nowhere. It pairs particularly well with artifact-heavy Commander decks, especially ones using cheap colorless rocks, affinity-style curves, or expensive finishers like Eldrazi titans. Because the bonus lasts only until end of turn, sequence your plays to cast your colorless spell before combat whenever possible, maximizing both tempo and damage.
