Card Details
Mana CostCharacter Background
Skittering Cicada is a deceptively slippery support piece for colorless-heavy decks, rewarding a tempo plan that can suddenly pivot into combat pressure. Its flash lets you keep mana open and deploy it at the end of an opponent’s turn, while the static ability effectively turns every colorless threat into an instant-speed play, making your table opponents play around surprise blockers, surprise utility artifacts, or end-step haymakers. The real payoff comes when you chain a colorless spell after it hits the field: the Cicada itself becomes a temporary finisher, gaining trample and scaling hard with the spell’s mana value. In Commander, this shines in artifact, Eldrazi, or devoid shells, especially alongside cheap mana rocks and large colorless bombs. A strong deckbuilding tip is to pair it with high-impact colorless spells like Thought-Knot Seer or big Eldrazi finishers, so even your setup turns into pressure.
