Card Details
Mana CostCharacter Background
Mystic Remora is one of Magic’s cleanest tempo-control engines: for a single blue mana, it turns the table’s early development into your personal resource stream. The card shines when you want to slow opponents down while staying ahead on cards, especially against spell-heavy decks that rely on cantrips, ramp, tutors, or cheap interaction. Its cumulative upkeep makes it a short-term commitment, so the best pilots treat it like a burst-value spell rather than a permanent fixture. In Commander, it is excellent in decks that can exploit the extra cards quickly, such as counterspell-heavy control shells or combo lists that need to assemble pieces fast. It also pairs well with bounce or sacrifice-friendly strategies that can reset age counters, and with effects that reduce upkeep costs or let you reuse enchantments. Play it early, tax greedy mana curves, and cash in on every noncreature spell.
