Barbed Sextant
Oracle Text
{1}, {T}, Sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color. Draw a card at the beginning of the next turn's upkeep.
Card Details
Mana CostCharacter Background
Barbed Sextant is a modest but clever Ice Age artifact that fits best in control or value-oriented decks, especially ones that want to smooth awkward draws and stretch mana across multiple colors. At first glance it looks like a simple fixer, but the delayed card draw makes it more like a temporary investment: you pay {1}, tap and sacrifice it for any color, then cash in a card at the start of your next upkeep. That makes it useful for surviving a color screw, enabling a splash, or jumping from early setup into a key spell while not truly going down a card. It pairs well with decks that care about artifacts entering and leaving play, or with effects that recur cheap permanents for incremental advantage. Because the draw is delayed, it also rewards planning turns ahead, which is exactly the kind of discipline control decks appreciate.
