Deathtouch
Power-up — {3}{G}: Put two +1/+1 counters on this creature. (Activate each power-up ability only once. Reduce the cost by its mana cost if it entered this turn.)
Card Details
Mana CostCharacter Background
Serpent Specialist is a deceptively efficient green one-drop that plays best in tempo and midrange shells, where early board presence matters and every combat step can force awkward trades. A 1/1 deathtouch body for {G} is already a nuisance, because it discourages attacks and blocks profitably against much larger creatures, buying time while you develop. The “Power-up” ability gives it a strong mana sink later, turning a harmless early roadblock into a real threat with two +1/+1 counters, especially since it can be activated for cheaper the turn it enters. That makes it a good fit in decks that want to curve out and then keep spending excess mana on board growth, such as +1/+1 counter strategies or sacrifice shells that appreciate sticky early creatures. Pair it with counter doublers, combat tricks, or any card that rewards a creature surviving combat to maximize its nuisance factor and endgame relevance.
