Card Details
Mana CostCharacter Background
Mana Drain is one of the purest expressions of blue control in Magic: the Gathering: a clean, two-mana answer that not only stops an opposing spell but converts that denial into a burst of colorless mana on your next main phase. That makes it especially potent in tempo and control shells, where disrupting a key threat while accelerating into a bigger follow-up can swing the game immediately. The card rewards careful sequencing: counter a high-mana-value spell, then use the stored mana to deploy a planeswalker, a sweeping answer, or an early finisher. In Commander and other slower formats, it pairs well with expensive haymakers and mana sinks, and it is particularly nasty alongside cards that let you act on an opponent’s turn or capitalize on extra mana after interaction. As a mythic reprint in Double Masters 2022, it stands as both premium disruption and a resource engine, turning restraint into dominance.
