Card Details
Mana CostCharacter Background
Scheming Fence is a classic Azorius-style control tool disguised as a streetwise Citizen, and it shines best in tempo and midrange-control shells that want to disrupt an opposing engine while stealing it for themselves. On entry, it can shut off a threatening nonland permanent’s activated abilities, which means it can blank mana rocks, utility lands, sacrifice outlets, planeswalkers, or combo pieces at a crucial moment. Then it turns that same card’s abilities into its own, letting you use them with any mana color to pay the costs—an excellent way to outmaneuver multicolor restrictions or repurpose an opponent’s best tool. In deckbuilding, pair it with blink effects or bounce to retarget new permanents, and prioritize cheap protection so you can keep the Fence on the battlefield long enough to matter. At two power and three toughness, it also blocks well, buying time while you extract value from enemy assets.
